Video Review: Ride The Sky
Let's do some reviews eh?
I'm pretty sure everyone's seen the new fallen vid but there's been mixed responses to it. Let my expert and righteous opinion be the decide all factor on fallen's ride the sky. Ready?
The video starts off right with a time lapse of the sky and a pretty wicked guitar riff that just gets u super psyched the first time u watch. All of a sudden mad hammers start bustin like a 3flip boardslide on a handrail or slash's pivot fakie at one of the coolest spots i've seen, and at the time I was diggin it, but i've come to a realization that a lot of those tricks should've actually been in their parts. Basically, the intro used too good of tricks. Yea, I fuckin sed it.
As for the video parts, my favorites were Sandoval, Crocket, and Hardy. Slash and Cole ripped too. Everyone had a good part pretty much. Bennet def would had another bangin part but got inured and had to share with Napervillain Harmony. Josh's part isnt particulary good but ive grown to like it a lil more with a few watches. Jamie Thomas on the other hand has a little too long of a part. Around 4.5 mins. I hear a lot of ppl saying its his best part and i can see why they would say that, but no. Youre all fuckin wrong. His parts in dying to live and misled youth was him in his prime. He does have some cool tricks like kf sorta wallride on a dumpsta and his ender, but man he jus made his part too dramatic. The song he used was horrible and his tricks are just subpar these days. I did get a good chuckle when he checked his mailbox. No mail tho, no one likes you chief.
Another big complaint about this video is trick order. I hate seeing 2 or 3 really good tricks followed by a warm up trick. It ruins the flow and makes that last trick obsolete when it could have been used closer to the beginning. Such as a 5-0 on a decent sized handrail when Sandoval just fakie flipped adio gap. wtf is that rubbish!
I'm probably the only person who didn't enjoy billy's part that much. His best trick was kf fs lip the rail he kf boards in good and evil and switch big heel carlsbad was pretty gnar. Everything else was mediocre to me.
Some major highlights for me were gilbert crocket bs smith kf over a rail, a super steezy bs 360 kf a triple flat(360 and you know it!), Sandoval's sprinkled hammers thruought his part: ss hardflip, kf fs lip fakie, or fakie fs flip 12, James hardy fakie 5-0 in a line super good, cervantes fsfeeb a sketchy as rail, slash kf fs board like waaaah, chris coles intro trick got me bug-eyed, and wtf at ss fs 360 kf the double in paris in the middle of his part?
The music was inconsistent. Some of them were good and some were bad. Not a bad soundtrack overall, just a lot of classic rock.
The editing was very clean and so was the filming. One thing people probably won't notice or care that I was impressed with was the slow mo they used. I thought most of the slow mo's were done real well, rampin without the gay, overdone rrrrewwwerrr sound. Slow mo done well is when u dont even notice that its being slow mo'd, it just fits the mood. A good example is tony cervantes 50-50ing the long kinked rail.
All in all, this is becoming one of my favorite flicks. It didn't meet the hype that it had way back when we all found out about it, but no video really meets hype anymore. It was fast, straight to business skateboarding black box style. An enjoyable and easily replayable video.
